With just under 100 days until the inaugural Obliteride it’s time to start training. We’ve assembled a stellar panel of experts who will frequently be providing training tips on our blog. Whether you’re a novice rider or an expert cyclist, we’ll cover everything you need to know to prepare for this amazing ride. Topics include nutrition, hydration, proper bike fit and equipment, training programs, and more to ensure you feel ready to ride Obliteride. Soon we’ll also publish info. about training rides you can join through some of our partners.

Jason Brayley, M.D.

General training and health tips

Dr. Brayley is an avid cyclist and team physician for Kenda/5 Hour Energy Pro Cycling presented by GearGrinder, a professional cycling team that competes throughout the U.S. He’s a Sports Medicine physician treating athletes of all ages and abilities. Dr. Brayley will be providing general training and health tips for all levels of riders.

Deb Preller, M.D.

Training tips for women

Dr. Preller practices at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue, Wash. Her achievements on the bike include the Washington state road women’s category 1-2 champion in 2006; gold and silver medals at Master’s National track racing in 2005 and 2006; Master’s World’s silver medalist in track racing in 2005; and Master’s World’s silver medalists in road racing in 2006. Dr. Preller currently co-manages the Fischer Plumbing Women’s cycling team. She will be providing training tips specifically geared towards women.

Russell Stevenson

Tips for expert cyclists

Russell Stevenson is a USAC Level 2 coach, NASM certified personal trainer and holds numerous bike fitting certifications. With several years of experience in road, cyclocross and mountain bike training and racing, Russell excels in outdoor workshops and skills clinics. Russell is the current Master’s National Champion and Master’s World Champion in Cyclocross (35+). He will be providing tips geared towards expert cyclists.

Craig Undem

Tips for novice riders

Craig Undem is an owner/coach at Cycle University in Seattle with lifelong passions for cycling and endurance sports. Craig got his start in cycling with a collegiate race in 1983, going on to race in the World Championships of cyclocross – winning a World Cup medal in mountain bike racing and placing second in the U.S. in Elite Criterium Championships – and racing Track and Triathlon. Craig has been a professional cycling coach since 1996 and is currently the director of all junior racing in the state of Washington. He’s also a coach with USACycling and a graduate of the Carmichael Coaching College. Craig will be providing tips for novice riders as well as those riding the 100-mile route.
